Healthy eating for healthy skin

food for good skin

Beautiful skin that glows and vibrantly screams “healthy!” We all want it. But healthy skin does not happen overnight. It takes work, planning and a budget. I know, sounds like building a house, right? You’re allowed an eye roll here only if you’ve got baby soft skin that needs no effort. Everybody else, pull up a chair.

Plan for it? Isn’t that a bit much?

Depends on how you look at it. I plan for healthy skin because I want to feel good about myself. I want my brand to speak for itself wherever I go, and good-looking skin is a big part of that. Healthy skin says just that. Healthy.

Food, or Estee Lauder? Surely I can get healthy skin from a bottle, no?

Well, you can try. Both, I say. But remember this. Food gets broken down into nutrients that end up in the circulation, traveling everywhere and into the layers of the skin as well, of course. This means we have to give the skin the nutrients it needs to glow; the necessary building blocks.

Eating healthy can be a real trial if you lead a busy life. It’s often easier to order in, or grab a pack of fast food, but it gets easier if you have your eyes set on a goal. Like healthy skin.

Okay, tell me something I don’t know. I’m all ears.

Well you’ve heard most if not all of it. But the gospel of good nutrition for healthy skin has to be preached over and over and over, until all God’s people are glowing fabulously and oozing good health. So here we go again.

1. Start your day with a glass of water. This rejuvenates your body and helps flush out toxins. Rehydrate through the course of the day.

2. Cut out fizzy drinks from your diet. The occasional soda is alright but if you find yourself always popping a can of diet this or a can of that, then you know it’s time to form a new, healthy, kind-to-skin habit. Excessive sugars are not good for skin, cut out refined sugars from your diet. energy bars are big culprit for some people too, so it’s better to carry fruits, nuts, and other healthier snacks.

3. Add antioxidant rich foods to your diet. Pawpaws, Kale and spinach contain antioxidants, as well as carrots and pumpkins. If you don’t like the taste of kale try mixing it with foods that mask its taste. Have you tried a kale omelette? The boyfriend made it once and I was skeptical at first but it turned out surprisingly good. You could also juice these vegetables and just have yourself a glass of healthy goodness.

4. More fruits, more vegetables, the more colourful the better. For guidance think rainbow. Fruits and vegetables of several colours.

5. How much alcohol do you consume? If you take quite a lot and are into weekend binges, note that it could be raging you. Not only is alcohol dehydrating but too much of it and the body quite evidently takes a beating, your skin too of course.

Start today, future you will thank you!

29 reasons I’ll never be stick thin

Dessert and good times

29 reasons I'll never be bone stick thin. 💁🏽 ~ ~ ~ #food #glorious #food #dessert #icecream #tea #travel #travelgram #lifestyle #realgirllifestyle #reallifeliving #whatwouldcatherinedo #havedesertiswhat #blogger #whatwouldcatherinedo | August 31, 2016 at 02:19PM This, please, everyday!

Reason 1 major: the love of all things sweet.

This, this, this! I can never resist a sweet treat, in fact this may be one of the more compelling reasons that gets me exercising. Just so I can keep saying ‘yes’ to more sweet things without having my waist line getting out of line!

This here in this picture was a lovely desert I shared with the boyfriend on a certain weekend in Sotra, Norway. Not only is sharing caring, but calories shared don’t count – right?

Soul food. And being happy

IMG_6953

A weekend in Sotra. Because soul food.

Try daily to do something you enjoy. A good book, good food, an expertly brewed cup of world class chai, a healthy dose of laughter, a heart to heart with a dear one – or even a stranger, a walk about a trail that calls to mind happy memories, a good jog or an intense work out, whatever makes your heart glow!

In short, make a happy life. Now, starting with the daily stuff. The grand schemes will fall into place. Until they come along, make making yourself a daily dose of happy a habit.

Sightseeing – Spring in Stockholm

Spring in Stockholm

On the way to Moderne Museet

Stockholm is a beautiful city all year round. As long as you remember to keep warm when the low temperatures set in, that is. I visited Stockholm for the first time in February, then again in March and I have many beautiful memories of this history rich city.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to worry about accommodation so we could spend that money on more important things. Like fabulous dining experiences! Hello Erik’s Gondolen!

At the palace. Apparently the royals stand on this very spot for ceremonies, so I queened it too.

Apparently entry to many Stockholm museums is now free! My favourite price! This is a move by the government in a move to promote education and culture. The Swedes are seriously my kind of people.

Accommodation is usually the most pricey part of any trip. If you’re thinking hotels, do check out some reviews for hotels on TripAdvisor or try hotels.com. Did you know you get one free night for every 10 nights you book with hotels.com? I love that about them!
