A brief trip to Oslo

I’m always happy to see snow! 🌨🌺 As long as I’m warm, that is. I was about to say this was the first time I went to Oslo by myself, then I remembered I did take a work trip there in August last year. It was a 24 hour’s in-and-out trip, but I get better at navigating the public transport each time. The trains, the tram, the bus, the apps – I am quite proud of myself. When I’ve been there with Ian, I’ve been more than happy to have him take care of the navigation. He is the native, after…

A safari in Murchison Falls National Park

A safari in Murchison Falls National Park

There’s nothing like being out there in the wild with these incredibly graceful creatures!   We went for a morning safari drive at dawn and another drive in the late afternoon when we got a chance to get out of the car and get up close and personal-and somewhat slightly terrified-cause giraffes have got very strong hind legs, so you don’t wanna mess! A visit to Popeye’s Village

A visit to Popeye’s Village

Popeye’s Village is a quaint little village tucked away on one of Malta’s rocky shores. A relic from the movie on Popeye the Sailor-man that was shot here decades ago, they’ve kept this themed piece of rock true to the movie set. While it is not skydive-exciting, it is worth a visit for adults too. See, I thought it was a children only place but it turned out different. Parts of it burnt down years ago but they were able to rebuild it. Popeye’s Village makes for a good view of the rocky island from here, the scenery is quite…

Understanding Scandinavian Culture and the Nordic People

Understanding Scandinavian Culture and the Nordic People

There is a lot more to the Nordics than good seafood and breath-taking views. I certainly don’t mind both though! I have been trying to understand Scandinavian Culture and the Nordic people in general, to make my integration here as smooth as possible. This region has got many cultural nuances, and I have learnt that you risk some frustration if you go in unarmed. You know what they say: knowledge is power. And forewarned is forearmed. When I first started coming to Norway, Ian encouraged me to buy this book. The Almost Nearly Perfect People – Behind The Myth of…
